ROSEVILLE, Minn. - I-35W closure ahead for bridge demolition. Both directions of I-35W between I-694 and the north junction of Hwy 10 are tentatively scheduled to close 10 p.m. Friday, June 8 until 5 a.m. Monday, June 11 for removal of the Hwy 10/County Road 10 bridges.
Once the Hwy 10/County Road 10 bridges are removed, westbound Hwy 10/County Road 10 will close at I-35W through the construction season. During the closure, traffic will detour on northbound I-35W to County Road I and back south on I-35W to County Road H.
Westbound Hwy 10 will remain open with access only to northbound I-35W. Access to homes and businesses along eastbound Hwy 10 will be maintained from westbound Hwy 10.
Eastbound Hwy 10 closed last week between I-35W and I-694 and will remain closed through the construction season.
Motorists will experience delays on eastbound I-94 in Minneapolis between Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue and Hwy 280 as the left lane closes at 5 a.m. Monday, June 11.
The lane closure is needed for crews to finish final median work after the weekend closure of eastbound I-94. Motorists on eastbound I-94, and those on northbound I-35W trying to access eastbound I-94 should expect delays in the area throughout the week and take alternate routes if possible. The lane closure will remain in place through late Thursday, June 14.
The weekend closure of eastbound I-94 in the same area will begin at 10 p.m. Friday, June 8. During the full closure of the roadway, a posted detour will direct motorists to use northbound I-35W, eastbound Hwy 36 and southbound I-35E to access eastbound I-94.
Ramp closures to and from eastbound I-94 throughout the closure limits will begin at 9 p.m. June 8, including the ramp from northbound I-35W to eastbound I-94. Access will remain available to southbound I-35W; however, eastbound I-94 traffic will be reduced to a single lane before the Lowry tunnel, and motorists should expect delays.
Detour maps can be found at www.mndot.gov/fullclosures. The roadway and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 11.
The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul features Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion. The project also includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway, drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, and lane realignment.
