07/19/2010 11:55 AM - ST. PAUL, MN (July 19, 2010) – The St. Paul Saints’ 10-6 win over the El Paso Diablos on Sunday night capped off an impressive week that saw them score 65 runs in six straight wins during their road trip to Texas. Playing a big part in the team’s offensive success was outfielder Josh Alley, who earned Pointstreak Player of the Week honors.
In the leadoff spot last week, Alley went 13-for-23 (.565) with 10 RBIs, nine runs scored, four extra base hits and three stolen bases. He didn’t only reach base with hits, though. Alley drew nine walks over the course of the week, which means he reached base 22 times in six games.
Alley has been a solid player for the Saints all season, but after an incredible week, his overall numbers have drastically improved. Going into Tuesday’s series opener against another Texas team, the Fort Worth Cats, Alley’s batting average is up to .315. He has five home runs and 32 RBIs to go along with 41 runs scored, 16 stolen bases and a .430 on-base percentage.
It is the first time a Saints player has been named Pointstreak Player of the Week this season. Alley and his teammates will be back in St. Paul to open up a three-game series against Fort Worth on Tuesday. Game 1 will be at 1:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium.
