ST. PAUL, MN(August 20, 2008) – In the final St. Paul Saints game at Midway Stadium for 2008 Brent Krause homered twice in his final game of the season as the Saints lost 14-2 to the Lincoln Saltdogs on Wednesday night in front of 8,425.
Krause, who will not play the final three games in Sioux City as he attends his brothers wedding, smacked his first homer of the night and 18th of the season in the second. He came calling again in the ninth as he smashed a solo homer over the left-center field wall, completing the season with 19 long balls, tying for the second most homers in a single season by a Saints player.
Another record was also tied on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t a positive one as Saints starter Jeff Blitstein tied the record for most homers given up by a Saints pitcher in one game. He gave up five on the night, tying Mike Meyer’s record.
In the second inning Curt Miaso singled for the Saltdogs and Shea McFeely followed with a two-run homer to left, his sixth of the season, making it 2-0.
The Saltdogs hit two more homers in the third as Kit Pellow hit his first of the night, a solo shot to left, his fourth of the season. After Shawn McGill was hit by a pitch, Miaso hit a two-run homer to left, his fifth of the season.
In the fourth the big bats came out again as Albenis Machado and Manny Rodriguez each had one out singles. With two outs Pellow smashed one over the left field wall, a three-run shot, his second of the night and fifth of the season. The Saltdogs went back-to-back as McGill drove one over the left field wall, his eighth of the season making it 9-1.
The Saltdogs hit their sixth and final homer of the night in the ninth inning, a two-run shot from Machado, his second of the season.
The Saints head to Lewis and Clark Park for their final three game series of the season as they take on the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Luis Villarreal (4-4, 2.54) to the mound. The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
