Frost Sets Stolen Base Record As Saints Lose 6-3 To Wingnuts

September 02, 2012 at 11:33 PM

ST. PAUL, MN (September 2, 2012) – While the St. Paul Saints may not be playing for a playoff berth anymore many players are trying to finish up the season strong and play for personal records.  Adam Frost did just that setting a new franchise record for stolen bases as the Saints were downed 6-3 to the Wichita Wingnuts on Sunday evening at Midway Stadium in front of 6,029.

The Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when Ronnie Bourquin led off with a single.  He moved to second on a single by Miles Durham.  With one out Tanner Townsend walked to load the bases.  Jake Krause knocked in a run with a single.

The Wingnuts tied the game in the third when Jake Kahaulelio singleD, moved to second on a single by John Rodriguez and scored on a single by Greg Porter.

The Wingnuts grabbed a 3-1 lead in the fourth when David Peralta led off with a single.  With one out Mike Conroy singled him to third.  Steve Stanley and Ryan Khoury added back-to-back RBI singles.

The Saints showed some fight in the bottom of the inning when Bourquin led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Durham.  Joe Spiers’ sacrifice fly cut the deficit to one at 3-2.  Durham stole second and moved to third on an infield single by Tanner Townsend.  A fielder’s choice ground out by Krause tied the game at three.

The Wingnuts took the lead for good in the fifth when Rodriguez led off with an infield single.  With two outs Peralta doubled to right sending Rodriguez to third, but on the play Durham had trouble playing the ball in right which allowed Rodriguez to score and sent Peralta to third giving the Wingnuts a 4-3 lead.  Jesse Mier’s RBI single made it 5-3.

Frost set a little piece of Saints history in the eighth when he singled to lead off the inning.  With Ole Sheldon at the plate Frost stole second.  It gave him 24 on the season, adding to his 31 from 2011 for a total of 55 in his Saints career.  The 55 steals surpassed Brent Krause’s (2007-11) franchise record of 54.

The final game of 2012 takes place on Monday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.  The Saints are TBA while the Wingnuts send LHP Anthony Capra (2-2, 4.79).  It is a Labor Day Celebration.  The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
