Hometown Partnership, Sun Country Airlines Named Official Airline of the St. Paul Saints

ST. PAUL, MN April 4, 2019

One started in 1983, the other 10 years later.  One was born from the idea of a small, but passionate, group of pilots and flight attendants who wanted to help people connect and create memories that matter. The other from a small, but creative, group of baseball mavericks that believed there was no place better to connect and create memories than a ballpark.  Both made the Twin Cities their home, one at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport and the other at a ballpark in St. Paul. Now these two hometown teams come together as the St. Paul Saints announced that Sun Country Airlines will become the Official Airline of the club in 2019.

“We’re excited to stand side-by-side with a great hometown team in Sun Country Airlines,” said Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager, Derek Sharrer.  “Their commitment to helping people enjoy fun and memorable experiences is perfectly in line with what we hope to accomplish every time we open our gates.”

This agreement establishes a multi-year partnership between an airline that is known for taking people to tropical destinations and a ballclub that is known for the best entertainment under the sun. Through several marketing and promotional initiatives, Sun Country Airlines will showcase technology, community, customer service, travel, and fun, both inside CHS Field and across various media and digital platforms.

In an effort to highlight the in-flight experience you can expect from Sun Country, where most seats include a USB charging port, the airline will provide Saints fans with mobile device charging stations on the CHS Field concourse.  These charging stations, located on the stadium light towers, will feature Sun Country branding and include drink rails at which fans can relax, have a beverage or a snack, and enjoy a tremendous view of the game while waiting for their device to recharge.

Additionally, Sun Country and the Saints will highlight one of the airline’s most powerful community initiatives, celebrating Everyday Heroes. An Everyday Hero is someone who goes out of their way to make a difference in the lives of others around the Twin Cities.  From volunteering time at a food bank, to coaching youth sports, to visiting residents at a nursing home, Sun Country honors those who make their communities better.  Six of these Everyday Heroes will be honored during a pre-game ceremony at CHS Field and their stories will be told via both the Sun Country and Saints social media platforms.

Finally, no partnership with the Saints can be complete without fan engagement, interactivity, and great prizes.  With Travel Tuesday sweepstakes, rewards for great 9th inning pitching performances, and a giant game of “Bags” using a map of flight destinations, Saints fans will have every opportunity to win and travel with Sun Country Airlines.

“For years Sun Country has been focused on bringing Minnesotans to fun places, and this partnership is a great opportunity to have some fun right here in our hometown,” said Sun Country Chief Marketing Officer Brian Davis. “This partnership aligns with our strategy of working with like-minded hometown brands and with the St. Paul Saints, we are two companies that strive to offer family friendly fun at a great value. We are excited to add to the environment the Saints create at CHS Field, and to further recognize our incredible Everyday Heroes that are doing great work to make our communities better every day.”
