Saints 2012 Pig Mascots Are A Match Made In Pig Heaven

ST. PAUL, MN (May 16, 2012) – Their eyes met across the sty. The courtship began. Now these two love birds are ready to take their relationship to the next level as they spend an entire season at Midway Stadium. The St. Paul Saints are proud to announce the engagement of Kim LARDashian and Kris HAMphries.
The Saints 2012 pig mascots are presented by U.S. Bank Healthcare Payment Solutions.
The Saints revealed the names at the World’s Largest Game of Catch Wednesday in downtown St. Paul. The name was selected out of over 1,000 entries in the Name the Pig Contest conducted by the Saints and the St. Paul Pioneer Press at twincities.com. The winning entry was submitted by Heather Egli of St. Anthony Village. She receives a prize pack from the Saints, along with being honored at a Saints game during the season-opening homestand May 17-20.
When not at Midway Stadium this season Lardashian and Hamphries will spend the summer at Hamphries’ Minnesota home. The courtship has lasted a few months even after Lardashian was linked to several male celebrities like Kanye Wurst and Hambriel Aubry. Lardashian started showing up at several of Hamphries pig chase events and the two began sharing slop on quiet evenings alone. During this past winter the couple began going out in public and were photographed by the piggyrazzi. They had their lives chronicled on the hit reality show “Keeping Up With the Lardashians” and Hamphries finally proposed.
A wedding date will be set at a separate time, but in a joint statement Lardashian and Hamphries said their love is pure and they plan on being together for not only the 2012 Saints season, but for many seasons to come. The Saints season lasts 110 days and many believe they will be the longest lasting pigs in Saints history.
“These two pigs are simply meant to be together” said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Derek Sharrer. “We knew from the moment we saw them that they, as a couple, would become our four-legged mascots. The reality is they’re inseparable. ”
It is the first time in the Saints 20 season history that they will have two different pigs. The role of the pigs is to deliver baseballs to the umpires, entertain the crowd and take photos with their adoring fans.
While Kim Lardashian and Kris Hamphries were the winners in the name the pig contest there were many incredible choices such as Mitt Hamney, Captain Hamerica, S.Q.U.E.A.L Team 6 and Occupig.
During the previous 19 seasons the Saints have had a pig mascot and each has had a unique name. Many of the names play on hot topics of the year, current events or local celebrities. Past names have included Justin Bieboar (2011), Brat Favre (2010), Slumhog Millionaire (2009), Boarack Ohama (2008), Notorious P.I.G. – Piggy Smalls (2003) and Kevin Bacon (2001).
When the Saints moved to town in 1992 Libby Veeck, the wife of Saints owner and President Mike Veeck, came across an interesting tidbit in a book she was reading and discovered St. Paul was known as “Pig’s Eye” after Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant. Thus, the pig mascot was born.
Since 1993 the Saints have received the pig from Dennis and Marilyn Hauth who handle, train, design costumes and house the pigs.
Tickets for Saints home games are $5 for general admission, $8 for outfield reserved and $12 for infield reserved. Tickets purchased on the Day of the Game are an additional $1 per ticket. Children under the age of 14 and seniors 65 and older receive $1 off the admission price. Children under 2 that don't require a seat are free.
