Saints Defeat Hinckley Knights/East Minny All-Stars in Exhibition Game 9-0

May 12, 2012 at 11:47 PM

HINCKLEY, MN (May 12, 2012) – For the fifth consecutive year the St. Paul Saints played an exhibition game at a townball field and put on a good show for the local fans in Hinckley, MN as they defeated the Hinckley Knights/East Minny All-Stars 9-0 at The Brennan.

The Saints pounded out 18 hits and their pitching staff gave up just two hits as they got contributions from a number of different players.  In the first inning the Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead courtesy of an RBI double from Ronnie Bourquin and a two-run single by Tanner Townsend.

In the third Jose Hernandez continued to swing the bat well in the exhibition season with an RBI single.

The big bats in the heart of the line up flexed their muscles in the fifth.  Ole Sheldon clubbed a two-run homer, his first of the pre-season to give the Saints a 5-0 lead. Bourquin followed with a solo homer to center, his first home run of the spring, to make it 6-0.  Sheldon finished the day 3-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored while Bourquin went 2-4 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored.

Wes Roemer got the start for the Saints and went 6.0 innings allowing just one hit while striking out five.  Kyle Carr pitched a scoreless inning while striking out one and Bret Severtson pitched the final two innings while striking out three.

The Saints continue the exhibition season with a 1:05 p.m. game on Sunday against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Midway Stadium.
