SAINTS FINISH UP EXHIBITION SEASON WITH 3-3 TIE AGAINST EXPLORERS

ST. PAUL, MN (May 19, 2015) – The final tune-up before the regular season begins on Thursday saw the St. Paul Saints and Sioux City Explorers finish in a 3-3 tie on Tuesday morning at CHS Field in front of 5,828 Twin City students.

The Saints broke through in the first inning when Alonzo Harris led off with a single.  He advanced to second on a ground out and moved to third on a fly out. Ian Gac followed with an RBI single to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Saints starter Jeff Shields was solid allowing just one run in 5.0 innings of work on five hits while striking out two.  The lone run he allowed came in the fifth on an RBI ground out by Matty Johnson.

With the game tied at one in the fifth Willie Argo crushed a solo shot over the left field wall to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.

In the sixth Gac proved why the Saints made him the first signing for the 2015 season.  He hit a towering home run over the batters eye in center field to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.

The Explorers tacked on a pair of runs late to tie the game.  In the ninth Tim Colwell led off with a walk.  He stole second and scored on a single by Noah Perio Jr.

The two teams were scheduled to play 10 innings, so despite the Explorers trailing they batted in the 10th and it proved beneficial.  Rene Tosoni led off with a single.  He moved to second on a ground out and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Tommy Mendonca tied the game up with an RBI single to right-center.

The Saints finished the exhibition season 4-0-1.

The regular season begins with the inaugural game at CHS Field as the St. Paul Saints take on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday.  The first 7,00 fans receive a cap presented by CHS.  The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
