ST. PAUL, MN July 2, 2014

SAINTS GAME SUSPENDED DUE TO POWER OUTAGE

ST. PAUL, MN (July 1, 2014) – Two teams heading in the same direction squared off on Tuesday night at Midway Stadium.  The St. Paul Saints entered play on a three game losing streak while the Fargo-Moorhead had dropped six straight.  With the Saints trailing 10-5 in the bottom of the ninth, a runner on second and two outs divine intervention took place: the power went out on the lights behind home plate suspending the game until Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

The RedHawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Ronnie Bourquin walked, C.J. Retherford singled him to second and Nic Jackson hit a three-run homer, his fourth of the season.

The Saints climbed to within 3-1 in the second when Angelo Songco reached on an error by the first baseman Retherford.  With one out Brandon Tripp singled and Joe Bonfe followed with an RBI single.

The big blow came in the fourth as the RedHawks scored five runs to take an 8-1 lead.  Saints starter Cole Nelson walked the first two hitters he faced.  After a strikeout of Brandon Newton, Nelson departed for reliever Ben Hughes.  He walked Tim Alberts to load the bases.  Zach Penprase made it 6-1 with a two-run double.  That was followed by a three-run homer from Bourquin, his eighth of the season.

The RedHawks made it 9-1 in the fifth when Brandon Newton double and two batters later Penprase singled him home.

In the seventh the Saints put up a three spot as Jared McDonald led off with a double.  Sam Maus knocked him home with a single to make it 9-2.  Jake Taylor beat out an infield hit to second and Evan Bigley followed with a two-run double to make it 9-4.

The teams traded runs in the eighth with Newton singling home a run for the RedHawks and McDonald hitting a sacrifice fly for the Saints.

The regularly scheduled game will begin at its normal time of 7:05 p.m.  The Saints will send RHP Jeff Shields (3-2, 4.62) against RedHawks RHP Drew Bowlin (2-1, 2.66). It is the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Forrest Gump.  The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
