Saints To Hold Annual Block Party With Hiway Federal Credit Union World's Largest Game of Catch

ST. PAUL, MN May 7, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN (May 7, 2012) – The St. Paul Saints circus is coming to downtown St. Paul.  There will be pigs, nuns, baseball players, inflatables, food and fun and is the block party to end all block parties.  It’s the Hiway Federal Credit Union World’s Largest Game of Catch, in conjunction with the Greater St. Paul Building and Managers Association (BOMA).

The block party will take place on Wednesday, May 15 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and will be held on Robert Street between 6th Street and 7th Place.  The event serves as a kick-off to the 2013 season and fans are encouraged to bring their gloves.  Everyone in attendance will receive a free soft baseball with the Saints and Hiway Federal Credit Union logos.

Fans will have the chance to satisfy their taste buds with slices of pizza from Little Caesars (one slice for $1), food from Noodles & Company and gyros from Grecian Delight.  Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery will be sampling its famous fresh cheese curds and will have packages available for sale. KLN will provide chips and licorice samples.  Proceeds from all food sales will be donated to the charity of their choosing.  Soda and water will be provided free of charge courtesy of the Saints and 7-UP.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman will be in attendance and kick-off the event.  The entire Saints team will be driven to the event on a trolley courtesy of Twin Cities Trolleys.  The team will take center stage around noon and manager George Tsamis will introduce his club.

Fans will have an opportunity to partake in a game of catch with their friends, colleagues and even Saints players and coaches.

After a month-long Name the Pig Contest presented by the Minnesota State Lottery and the Saint Paul Pioneer Press, the 2013 pig will be introduced and his name will be revealed.  In past seasons, names have coincided with reality show stars (Kim Lardashian and Kris Hamphries in 2012), sports icons (Brat Favre in 2010), local flair (Garrison Squeallor in 2007), national flavor (Boarack Ohama in 2008), baseball lore (The Great Hambino in 1998) and music style (Justin Bieboar in 2011, Hammy Davis Jr. in 2000, The Notorious P.I.G. – Piggy Smalls in 2003 and Squeal Diamond in 2004).

“This is such a unique event and we look forward to doing it every year,” said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Derek Sharrer.  “The community support during our 21 years has been extraordinary and that’s never more evident than during our World’s Largest Game of Catch.”

The Saints, Hiway Federal Credit Union and St. Paul BOMA will be joined by participating sponsors Renewal by Andersen, Walser Automotive, Xfinity and St. Paul Athletic Club.  Sister Rosalind Gefre will be giving massages to benefit her Christian Ministry.

Those attending the event should be aware that parts of 6th Street will be closed due to a construction project.
