ST. PAUL, MN July 30, 2014

ST. PAUL, MN (July 30, 2014) – From the first rounder that signs for a large bonus to the 50th rounder that hopes to beat the odds and make it to the Major Leagues one day.  There are people who scour the country trying to find that hidden gem.  That person is known as a scout. The St. Paul Saints will induct Mike Radcliff, who has helped bring some great talent to the Minnesota Twins, into the Professional Scouts Hall of Fame presented by Killebrew Root Beer on Saturday, August 2.

Radcliff has been a member of the Twins organization since 1987, was named Vice President, Player Personnel in September of 2007. He was named 2011 Scout of the Year in the Midwest by his peers in Major League Baseball. Radcliff leads the club’s overall player evaluation process at both the major and minor league levels, assists Terry Ryan and Rob Antony in negotiating player contracts and oversees the club’s professional and amateur scouting staff, including the scouting of international players.

Radcliff, who was named the Director of Scouting in 1993, was the longest tenured scouting director in Major League Baseball. As Scouting Director, Radcliff managed 27 full-time and 34 part-time scouts and coordinated the annual amateur draft as well as the international scouting staff.

Radcliff is a 1979 graduate of the University of Missouri and began his scouting career as an area scout with the Major League Scouting Bureau in 1983. He was hired as an area scout by the Twins in 1987 and promoted to Midwest Supervisor in 1988.

Mike and his wife, Sherry, have two grown children and reside in Overland Park, KS.

“On behalf of Killebrew Root Beer, I would like to offer my congratulations to Mike Radcliff with his induction into the St. Paul Saints / Killebrew Root Beer Professional Scouts Hall of Fame,” said Jim Lundeen, President of RJM Distributing.  “As a dedicated member of the Minnesota Twins management group, Mike has been a proven source for finding baseball talent with the abilities to strive to the Major League level.”

Along with Radcliff, three other scouts were inducted into the PBSHOF by the Goldklang Group, the ownership group of the Saints.  The Fort Myers Miracle honored Jorge Posada Jr. on June 27, the Charleston RiverDogs will honor Rob English (Red Sox) on August 1, and the Hudson Valley Renegades will induct Larry Doughty (Pirates) on August 17.

This unique honor is given to those who exist at the very foundation of player development for the Major Leagues. The inductees will be commemorated with bronze plaques, designed by the acclaimed US Bronze, and placed on display at the four minor

league clubs operated by the Goldklang Group.

In the last six years the Goldklang Group teams have honored over 60 professional baseball scouts.  In 2008 the Saints inducted Phil Rizzo (L.A. Dodgers) and Hep Cronin (Atlanta Braves), in 2009 they honored Tom Greenwade (Brooklyn Dodgers and N.Y. Yankees) and Marti Wolever (Philadelphia Phillies), in 2010 they inducted Ken Stauffer (Tampa Bay Rays), in 2011 they enshrined Terry Reynolds (Cincinnati Reds), 2012 was Al Avila (Detroit Tigers) and last season John Mirabelli (Cleveland Indians received the honor.
