The St. Paul Saints and Kansas City T-Bones were tied at three after rain halted play on Saturday night. When they resumed on Sunday the Saints bullpen allowed three runs and the Saints lost 6-3 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Benji Waite got the ball in the fifth and pitched a scoreless inning, but in the sixth Brett Wiley led off with a double. Jimmy Mojica singled him to third and Dalton Wheat’s infield single in front of the plate scored Wiley to give the T-Bones a 4-3 lead.
In the seventh, with Cody Wheeler on the mound, Tyler Massey led off with a single. A walk to Jake Blackwood put runners at first and second. A passed ball moved the runners up, but Wheeler got Anthony Gallas to strikeout. Vladimir Frias, however, knocked home two with a single to center, as he finished with four RBI.
The Saints jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first when Breland Almadova singled with one out. Nate Hanson doubled to left scoring Almadova to make it 1-0. Angelo Songco knocked home Hanson to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning, however, the T-Bones scored three on Saints starter John Straka. Starlin Rodriguez led off with a single to left-center. Tyler Massey hit a ball that skidded past shortstop Tony Thomas that was originally scored an error and then changed to a hit. With two outs Vladimir Frias doubled both home to tie the game at two. Brett Wiley’s swinging bunt to third put runners at the corners and Jimmy Mojica hit a seeing-eye single just off the glove of a lunging Hanson at third to score Frias and give the T-Bones a 3-2 lead.
In the third the Saints tied it when Hanson led off with a walk. He moved to second on a single by Songco. A deep fly ball by Thomas moved Hanson to third and he scored on a two-out infield single by Tony Caldwell tying the game at three.
