Saints To Put On First Major Event At CHS Field With Zer0K/5K Runnnig of the Pigs April 11

ST. PAUL, MN March 12, 2015

SAINTS TO PUT ON FIRST MAJOR EVENT AT CHS FIELD WITH ZER0K/5K RUNNING OF THE PIGS

ST. PAUL, MN (March 12, 2015) – CHS Field is officially open for business, but the first official major event held by the St. Paul Saints is still a month away.  Whether you enjoy sitting on a couch, grabbing an ice cold beverage and watching TV or if you’re the more active type who is always on the move then the Saints have the perfect event for you: the Zer0K/5K Running of the Pigs.

On Saturday, April 11 put on your running shoes or your most comfortable sweatpants.  Registration for the event begins at 8:00 a.m. at CHS Field, 360 Broadway, Saint Paul.  The entrance to the ballpark is located between 4th and 5th Streets.

One of the first groups of people on the grass at CHS Field will occur during the Kids Fun Run which kicks off the event at 9:00 a.m.  Youth participating in the event will have a chance to take a trip around the warning track and race alongside the Saints furry two-legged mascot, Mudonna.

The Zer0K race is the only competition in the world where everyone is on a level playing field.  Beginning at 9:10 a.m. “runners” in the Zer0K will amble to the start/finish line, with an adult beverage in hand if they choose, and prepare for the shortest race in the world.  Once the starter gun goes off, not only will the race begin, but it will also end at the same time.  Participants, a loosely used word for this event, will receive a special Mardi Gras themed Zer0K t-shirt.  They will need to find the strength to reach the elevator and head up to the Securian Club, where they can lounge on couches or the outdoor padded seats and cheer on the 5K racers.  Of course, no Zer0K would be complete without adult beverages flowing from the taps.

The main event, the 5K Run/Walk will start at 9:15 a.m. with racers lining up inside CHS Field.  The course will head outside of the ballpark, guide them through Swede Hollow Park and then back into CHS Field.  Swede Hollow Park is enjoyed by many residents looking for a green escape in an urban setting. The park's valleys create a distinct feeling of wilderness in conjunction with a bisecting stream that lightly fills the impressive silence and serenity afforded by the environment.  All 5K participants will receive a t-shirt.  Everyone participating in the day’s events will receive a post-race meal.

Last year’s winner among men was Scott Heitz, with a time of 21:48, and female Diane Combites, who finished in 23:30.

Registration in advance is $30 for adults and $20 for youths for the 5K and Zer0K and $40 on the day of the event for adults and $25 for youth.

To register visit http://saintsbaseball.com/community/running-pigs/ or call the Saints at 651-644-6659.

Parking for the race is available at the Union Depot lot, roughly two and a half blocks from CHS Field, any metered parking spot or various ramps and lots within walking distance of CHS Field.
