July 24, 2012 at 6:27 PM

KANSAS CITY, KS (July 24, 2012) – With less than 40 games remaining in the 2012 season and the St. Paul Saints fighting for a playoff spot manager George Tsamis added to his rotation by signing veteran free agent pitcher Kyle Ruwe.

The 29-year-old right-hander is no stranger to American Association competition spending three seasons with the Lincoln Saltdogs from 2005-07 and pitching for the Sioux Falls Pheasants in 2011.  Last season he was 4-5 with a 4.62 ERA in 16 starts including one complete game.  In 99.1 innings pitched he walked 20 and struck out 29.

In his career Ruwe has amassed a winning percentage of nearly .600 going 56-38 in seven seasons.  He has a better than 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio fanning 384 while walking just 149.  He has thrown at least one complete game in six of seven seasons and has tossed three complete game shutouts in his career including a four-hit complete game shutout against the Saints on July 24, 2006.  He finished third in the Can-Am League in 2008 with 12 wins, while pitching for the Sussex Skyhawks, currently tied for sixth most in the league’s history.  He was also third in walks per nine innings at 1.40, tied for third in shutouts (1), and complete games (3) and fifth in innings pitched (129.0).

While with the Saltdogs he finished tied for fourth in the Northern League in shutouts (1) and tied for fifth in wins (10) in 2006 and the following season with the Saltdogs he finished tied for fourth in the American Association with 10 wins.

Ruwe is scheduled to start the opening game of the series against the Kansas City T-Bones on Tuesday night.

In order to make room for Ruwe the Saints placed outfielder Jim Rapoport on the disabled list retroactive to July 14 and moved pitcher Matt Schuld from the disabled list to the inactive list.

The Saints roster stands at the league maximum 22 players, 10 pitchers, 12 positions players with the maximum two on the disabled list and two on the inactive list.
