This Is Your Chance, Saints Hold Open Tryout May 2

ST. PAUL, MN April 12, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN (April 12, 2012) – Kids of all ages dream of one day stepping to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, with the bases loaded and smacking a full count pitch over the wall to win a championship.  For many that moment is just a dream, but the St. Paul Saints give aspiring ballplayers the opportunity to make that dream become a reality every year when they hold their open tryout for a chance to make the team.

On Thursday, May 2 the Saints will hold their annual open tryout at Midway Stadium in St. Paul. It’s free to tryout and registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with the tryout starting at 9:00 a.m.  Each person showing up should come baseball ready in baseball attire, cleats, bring their own glove and a wood bat for position players.  All participants can showcase their talents at only one position.

.  Infielders will go through various defensive drills and show off their arms across the diamond. Outfielders will show their range and showcase their arm as well.  All position players will have a chance to take a few swings.

Pitchers will throw bullpen sessions while catchers will get behind the dish and show their ability to block balls and throw out baserunners.

If the tryout is rained out it will be rescheduled for the next day, on Friday, May 3 at 9:00 a.m.

The Saints can carry a maximum of 28 players into spring training, will trim the roster to 23 at the beginning of the season and must be down to the league maximum of 22 after the first 10 days of the season.

For more information about the tryout contact the Saints at 651-644-6659 or visit saintsbaseball.com.

The Saints begin their 21st season on Thursday, May 16 with a 7:05 p.m. game against the New Jersey Jackals.  Single game tickets, group tickets and specialty seating areas are on sale by contacting the Saints office at 651-644-6659 or visiting saintsbaseball.com.
